Serengeti Kitchen is a unique culinary venture that brings the vibrant flavors of Tanzania to Charlotte. Our menu blends traditional Tanzanian dishes with modern influences, offering a rich cultural experience for our guests. Serengeti Kitchen doesn't only offer delicious food but also shares the culture of Tanzania, a cuisine that is not widely known in Charlotte. Through each dish, we aim to connect cultures and offer an introduction to the bold, flavorful cuisine of East Africa, all while maintaining an inviting and customer-centered atmosphere.
Chef Ammalu's cooking journey began when she helped her mother in the kitchen at a young age. Growing up, she never intended to become a chef, but after facing health challenges, cooking became her therapy. What started as a healing process quickly became a deep passion that evolved into her business. For Chef Ammalu, being in the kitchen gives her a sense of belonging and purpose. It's her passion to share Tanzanian cuisine with the community and to create a space where people can explore and connect with new flavors.
As a woman and BIPOC-owned business, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming environment for everyone. Serengeti Kitchen is not just about food; it's about sharing the story and culture behind each dish, fostering understanding and connection through the universal language of food. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular, we are committed to providing a memorable dining experience that celebrates the richness of Tanzanian culture.
Serengeti Kitchen loves being part of The Market community! It's an incredible space filled with support, creativity, and a shared passion for great food. As a member of the HIIVE Cohort 1 program, Serengeti Kitchen was given the opportunity to do a three-month restaurant pop-up, and that experience was truly transformative. It provided invaluable insight and a deeper understanding of how to run a restaurant successfully. This journey wasn't just about the food but about building relationships and learning from other talented vendors.
We are incredibly grateful to be part of such an amazing community and are thrilled to continue our journey as a permanent resident. The Market has been a key part of our growth, and we are excited to keep sharing the rich flavors of Tanzania with the Charlotte community!
